Facebook in Your PLN

If you already have a Facebook account, then you also already have access to tons of free resources and information pertaining to education and EdTech. Many blogs, websites, companies, businesses, and developers have Facebook Pages that you can follow. These Facebook Pages share all kinds of information and resources and some even ask important questions to stir a deep discussion among interested people.

Facebook Interests

To easily get started with using Facebook in your PLN, add interests to your Facebook profile. In the video below, I show you how you can easily add Interests. Interests on Facebook are lists, which are collections of Facebook Pages that other people have created. You can "follow" these lists if you like them.

Interests that you may want to begin with:

  • "Technocation's Facebook PLN" by Michael Fricano II (64 Facebook Pages!)
  • "Education & Educational Technology" by Charlie Carpenter
  • "Elementary Education" by Shari Johnson Edwards
  • "EdTech" by Kristin Gustafson Brynteson

"Like" a Facebook Page

If you find a Facebook Page that interests you, "Like" it to have it added to your news feed.

Facebook Posts: Like, Comment, & Share

Remember, your PLN will only grow if you contribute and participate. If you see a Facebook post that interests you, you have a few options that will allow you to participate. If you enjoy the post then "Like" it! Liking a post shows others how many people also enjoyed it.

If the post contains a discussion, you can join in by commenting. Or if the discussion has started yet, then get it going!

If you think any of your friends or family would appreciate the information in the post, then "Share" it. Sharing a post will automatically show up on their news feeds.

Remember, your PLN on Facebook is only as strong as how much you contribute and participate.
