Step 4: Setup the Knowledge Base
Step 4 involves creating a Google Site and a child page. The script can send issues and resolutions to this webpage, creating a knowledge base for you and your faculty and staff.
A. Go to sites.google.com and Create a new site. (Or you can use an existing site if you have one)
B. Setup your new Google Site in 4 steps.
- Give your site a name.
- Select a theme from the drop down list.
- Type in the special code.
- Click the Create button.
C. Create a new page within your Google Site.
D. Setup your new page in 4 steps. Follow these steps precisely or your Knowledge Base will not work.
- Name the page "kb".
- Choose the template List.
- Choose the location, "Put page at the top level".
- Click the Create button.
E. Next, you're going to create your List on the new Page. Choose Use Template from the Create your own box.
You need to create 3 separate columns, each named according to the picture below (Request for, Question or Issue, Resolution). When you are finished, click Save.
F. Go back to your spreadsheet because we'll need to change some script code. In your spreadsheet go to the menu bar and choose Tools > Script Editor.
Look for the following piece of code and make the necessary changes. You will also need access to your Knowledge Base webpage URL.
When you are finished, Save the script and close the tab.
Now that your Knowledge Base is set up, move to step 5.
